PIB Singapore Roundtable

In our digitally transformed world of digital assets, cryptocurrencies, and decentralized finance conducting peer-to-peer transactions, how does funding flow or be laundered directly across borders? As small countries with trade-driven economies, Singapore and the Netherlands are both vulnerable to all kinds of cyber-enabled financial crimes. Regulation is upcoming, but not easily implemented in all countries by all financial institutions. For law enforcement and the judiciary prosecuting these high-tech financial crimes, where is the jurisdiction, what is evidence, and how should the chain of evidence be preserved in this era of new technologies? And do these emergent technologies as blockchain also offer opportunities to combat financial crimes? Are new technologies and solutions needed to secure our financial system?

This roundtable is the second one in a series of Singapore-Netherlands conversations on the topic of Financial & Cyber Crime. This session facilitates an open dialogue on the multi-stakeholder challenge regarding virtual asset intelligence with different perspectives, what works well, what are the challenges? The roundtable also provides the opportunity to share relevant updates after the first roundtable session in March.
